Half Empuriabrava 2020

The triathlon started sharply at 7.30 AM, only 3 minutes before the sunrise, with a swim portion of 1.9 km at Empuriabrava’s beach. The sea was flat as a pancake, and fortunately there were not jellyfishes around! It took me less than 32 minutes to complete the swim part, perfectly on time with the race plan!

After T1, the cycling sector was especially fast due to the absence of climbs, yet the asphalt was quite damaged in some sections which contributed to not relaxing at any time and moving out from the aero position quite frequently. With all that, I averaged 37.7 km / h and 234 W over a distance of 76 km, which are excellent figures given my current fitness level.

The transition to running (T2) was very smooth and the good feelings accompanied me during the 20 km, during which I focused on keeping with the nutrition plan previously designed by Marta Castroviejo, my nutritionist. I completed the (almost) half marathon at an average pace of 4:23 min / km with excellent sensations!

As a result, my finishing time was 4h05’05”, entering in 24th place overall. Being finisher of a half distance triathlon is always satisfying but this time it has been even more due to the tough times we have all gone through!
